TARTANS
This selection of paintings explore ancestral connections to tartans and reference the sequences found in specific Scottish clan tartans, as well as tartans associated with other countries. These heritage based artworks combine both traditional and modern patterns with a contemporary finish, giving the viewer a new perspective on tartan patterns.

WHERE SONGLINES AND KINSHIP MEET
This series of paintings was created using a spot painting technique inspired by a visit to Australia where I saw numerous Aboriginal spot paintings depicting Dreamtime and Songlines, which I interpreted as abstract maps.
I was inspired to make a series of spot paintings in response to my findings by combining the spot technique with Tartan compositions or setts from my own cultural background.
The artworks explore a spiritual journey through spot and sett, the path followed during the Dreamtime, and the colours belonging to land and kinship. They remind us of the historic and heroic fight by indigenous people to stand by their culture.
